About Jane

A calm, steady presence through pregnancy, birth and beyond

Hello, I’m Jane. I’m a BirthBliss Academy trained doula, pregnancy and postnatal yoga teacher, former paediatric nurse and mum to three wonderful humans. I believe that birth is not something that needs to be directed. It needs to be supported. For me, being a doula is about walking alongside you, listening, holding space and helping you feel informed, confident and supported as you make the choices that are right for you and your baby.

My approach to birth

My work is rooted in trust; trust in your body, trust in the process and, most importantly, trust in you. There is no single “right” way to give birth. You may be hoping for a physiological birth at home, planning to give birth in hospital, considering a caesarean birth, or simply wanting to keep an open mind and see where your journey takes you. Whatever your plans, I will meet you where you are.

I’m not there to take over or make decisions for you. I’m there to help create a calm, supportive space in which you feel heard and respected. I can help you explore your options, understand the information you are given and come back to what matters to you when things feel overwhelming.

Birth can be unpredictable. Plans sometimes change. When they do, having someone beside you who knows you, understands your wishes and can remain calm when everything around you feels unfamiliar can make a real difference.

That is the kind of doula I aim to be.

A little about my background

Before becoming a doula, I worked in paediatric nursing. My nursing background means that hospitals and clinical environments are familiar to me. I understand how daunting they can sometimes feel, particularly when plans change or you are faced with unfamiliar language and decisions. As your doula, however, my role is very different. I am there for you .

I can help you slow things down, ask questions, understand your options and keep your wishes at the centre of your experience.

Alongside my doula work, I teach pregnancy and postnatal yoga. I love seeing how breath, movement and simply taking some time to pause can help women reconnect with their bodies and their babies during such a transformative stage of life.

Motherhood has shaped me too

I’m a mum to three beautiful humans, and they are without doubt my proudest achievements. Motherhood has strengthened me and softened me in equal measure. It has taught me patience, resilience and the value of staying calm when things don’t quite go according to plan. It has also shown me that mothers need looking after too. So much attention naturally turns towards the baby during pregnancy and after birth. Part of my role is to make sure there is someone looking out for you as well.

What am I like as a doula?

People who know me describe me as steady, thoughtful and a good listener. I’m not loud or overpowering, and I don’t need to be the biggest presence in the room. I’m there quietly and consistently grounded, attentive and ready to step forward when you need me and give you space when you don’t.

I want you to feel that you can be completely yourself with me. You can ask questions, change your mind, laugh, cry, worry, celebrate or tell me when you simply need a cup of tea and a moment to think.

This is your pregnancy, your birth and your family. My role is to support you through it.

When I’m not talking about birth…

You’ll often find me practising yoga, at Zumba, spending time with family and friends or outside enjoying nature.

I love a long walk with my dog, Nelly, in tow, a chance to get outside, clear my head and enjoy the simple things.

Could I be the right doula for you?

Choosing a doula is a very personal decision. Qualifications and experience matter, but so does how you feel when you are with that person. You need to feel comfortable, safe and able to be yourself.

That’s why I offer a complimentary one-hour video call or an in-person meet-up. There is no pressure or expectation, it’s simply an opportunity for us to get to know one another, talk about your pregnancy and birth hopes, and see whether I feel like the right person to support you.

I support families across Hampshire, Dorset, Wiltshire and Surrey.

I’d love to hear your story and find out how I could support you through this season of your life.
